Frequently asked questions

Here you will find answers to the questions we are asked most often – about ordering, application, standards and service. Is your question not listed? Our technical hotline will be happy to help.

Ordering & purchasing

Testboy instruments are available from electrical wholesalers. If you have any questions, you can reach our customer service on +49 4441 89112-10 or at info@testboy.de.

We generally process enquiries that reach us on working days on the same or the following working day. For larger quantities or special configurations, we will contact you by phone to clarify your requirements together.

Yes. You can browse our current catalogue online or download it as a PDF (in German). You will also find all instruments in the product overview with complete technical data.

All four brands belong to Testboy GmbH. Testboy stands for the complete range of test and measurement technology, Profi for the two-pole voltage testers and Light for the work lights. Under Testavit Schuki we traditionally offer our socket testers, which check sockets and RCDs in seconds.

Application & standards

The measurement categories according to DIN EN 61010 describe the level of overvoltage to be expected at the measuring point – and therefore how robust an instrument has to be:

  • CAT II – consumer side, i.e. socket circuits and connected appliances
  • CAT III – fixed installation in the building: sub-distribution boards, junction boxes, permanently connected equipment
  • CAT IV – origin of the installation: service connection, meter cabinet, overhead line

What matters is always the combination of category and voltage, for example CAT IV 1000 V. Never choose an instrument rated below the category of your measuring point. In the product filter of each category you can filter specifically by measurement category and voltage.

A two-pole voltage tester according to DIN EN 61243-3 is the instrument intended for verifying the absence of voltage – the third of the five safety rules. It gives a reliable indication even when the battery is flat and is designed to prevent operating errors. In this situation a multimeter can deliver deceptive results, for example because the wrong measuring function has been selected or a test lead is defective.

Our two-pole voltage testers from the Profi III series cover this application in compliance with the standard.

For portable equipment – i.e. tools, extension leads, office equipment – you need an appliance tester. Suitable instruments are the Testboy TV 475 (tests according to EN 50678/VDE 0701 and EN 50699/VDE 0702), the mains-independent TV 465 and the TV 470, which additionally covers EN 62353 for medical devices.

Explained in detail: Appliance testing according to DGUV Regulation 3

The former DIN VDE 0701-0702 has been replaced by two European standards: EN 50678 (VDE 0701) governs testing after repair or modification, EN 50699 (VDE 0702) governs periodic testing. In terms of content, the test steps are largely comparable; the changes include specifications on limit values and documentation.

Our Testboy TV 475 works according to the current standards. Instruments built to the old standard may continue to be used as long as the required test steps and limit values are complied with – the decision lies with the responsible qualified electrician.

For Mode 3 type 2 charging points you need a test adapter that handles communication with the charging station and simulates a vehicle. The Testboy TV 900 performs this task. You then carry out the actual measurements – loop impedance, RCD test, insulation resistance – with an installation tester such as the TV 455 or TV 456.

Instruments without true RMS measurement assume an ideal sine wave. In modern installations with frequency converters, LED drivers or switched-mode power supplies, however, the current is distorted – and the measured values deviate considerably. A TRMS instrument determines the actual RMS value and measures correctly even with distorted signals. Our product filter lets you filter specifically for this feature.

Service, repairs & calibration

Please request an RMA number online before sending it in: on the Repairs page, enter the instrument and as precise a description of the fault as possible. You will generally receive the RMA number by email on the next working day – together with the shipping address and the shipping slip.

Pack the instrument securely for transport, enclose the shipping slip and proof of purchase – the proof of purchase is mandatory for any guarantee processing – and attach the RMA number clearly visibly to the outside. We cannot assign shipments without an RMA number, and we do not accept shipments sent carriage forward. If a repair is chargeable, you will receive a cost estimate in advance.

Our repair service will answer any questions in advance at rma@testboy.de or on +49 4441 89112-49.

An interval of one year is customary and has proven itself in practice. It is bindingly defined by the operator as part of their risk assessment – depending on frequency of use, ambient conditions and the requirements of the respective quality management system. For ISO and DAkkS calibration, the interval is always 12 months – the calibration certificate is valid for one year. After a fall, an overload or conspicuous readings, an instrument should be checked regardless of the interval.

When calibration is due, you can order it directly online via the Calibration page.

You create the order online on the Calibration page: you choose the type of calibration – factory calibration (for every Testboy instrument), ISO calibration (for TV 445, TV 450, TV 455, TV 456, TV 460, TV 465, TV 470 and TV 475) or DAkkS calibration (for TV 460, TV 465, TV 470 and TV 475) – and select your instruments. Several instruments can be included in one order.

You will receive the order number by email, along with an estimate of costs and duration. Attach the order number clearly visibly to the outside of the parcel; please only include accessories if they are to be calibrated as well. If an adjustment is required, additional costs may be incurred. After calibration, the instrument is returned to you with a calibration certificate – with DAkkS calibration also with a new test label.

On the hardware of newly manufactured Testboy products, we grant end customers a voluntary five-year manufacturer’s guarantee from the proven date of purchase – for products purchased on or after 1 October 2026. It is a durability guarantee: when used normally, the instruments retain the functions and performance described in the product description and operating instructions. Excluded are cameras, software and accessories – i.e. test leads, rechargeable batteries, batteries, cases, memory cards and fuses. The guarantee applies to products purchased in the European Union, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Full details are set out in our guarantee terms (in German).

Please report a guarantee claim no later than one month after discovering the defect, in writing or by email to info@testboy.de – to us or to your dealer, with the original invoice, details of the product and a description of the fault. Once agreed, send the instrument to us well packed.

Your statutory warranty rights against your seller remain unaffected. For business customers, our General Terms and Conditions of Delivery (in German) apply. If you have questions about a specific instrument, please contact our customer service at info@testboy.de.

If you bought the instrument directly from Testboy, report a defect in the same way as a repair, via the Repairs page.

We stock accessories such as test leads, test probes, crocodile clips, temperature probes and carrying cases to match the respective instruments. Simply tell our customer service the instrument type and item number – we will find the right part. Contact: +49 4441 89112-10 or info@testboy.de.

Downloads & software

You will find all operating manuals and data sheets together under Downloads – sorted by product category. On every product page, the documents are also available for download right next to the instrument. If you know the item number, the search is the quickest way to get there.

For instruments with a PC connection – such as the installation and appliance testers of the TV 400 series and the thermal imaging cameras – we provide the evaluation software under Downloads. Please make sure you use the version that matches your instrument type.

We show the procedure for non-contact voltage testers and magnetic field testers in a short video on our YouTube channel. You will find the instrument-specific information – in particular on the battery type – in the respective operating manual.
