Initial verification according to DIN VDE 0100-600

Before an electrical installation goes into operation, it has to be tested. DIN VDE 0100-600 describes how: first inspect, then test, then measure – and document everything. For existing installations, DIN VDE 0105-100 applies analogously to periodic verification, known to many in Germany's residential and commercial sector as the E-Check.

The procedure in practice

  • Inspection – check the selection and installation of the equipment, protective measures, labelling, cable cross-sections and accessibility before voltage is applied.
  • Continuity of protective conductors – low-resistance measurement of protective and equipotential bonding conductors.
  • Insulation resistance – measurement with the test voltage appropriate to the nominal voltage.
  • Loop impedance and line impedance – proof that the disconnection conditions are met in the event of a fault.
  • RCD test – determine the tripping current and tripping time of the residual current devices.
  • Phase rotation and function – check the direction of phase rotation, test the protective devices.
  • Reporting – document the measured values, the assessment and the test equipment used.
